Chitwan. Vehicles have been operated one-way after 17 km of Narayangadh-Muglin road section was washed away. Work is underway to operate two-way traffic by placing gravel in the flooded area this morning.
According to Krishna Raj Adhikari, chief of the Division Roads Office, Bharatpur, the problem has arisen after additional flooding in the area. He said that the road was washed away less than a year after the road was laid at 17 and 26 kg of the road. He said that the road was washed away in 17 kg at an area of 35 meters with a width of 3 to 3.5 meters. The road in that place is nine meters wide. He informed that two-way vehicles can be operated after gravelling the road.
The site was built in 2060 BS with an anchor wall under the road. It is said that there is a problem in this. The anchor wall has stopped working due to the Trishuli River cutting in the area. The road was widened two years ago. Less than a year after the construction of the road, a 6.5-meter-wide and 70-meter-long section of 26 km has been washed away. Although bids have been invited for repairs in both the places, no bids have been received, according to the Road Department.
Director General of the Road Department Keshav Kumar Sharma said that no one came even after inviting bids twice for repairs. Since only a technically competent contractor can do the work, it is understood that anyone did not dare. Due to non-receipt of the contract, the same number of roads have to be operated in the rainy season of this year.
The road has been flooded in the area while it is estimated that there will be problems during the rainy season if the flooded area increases. This road is the main road to and from the capital. 10,000 vehicles ply on the road daily.
