National Paddy Day, Yogurt Chiura Eating Day

Today is Asar 15, National Paddy Day and Yogurt Chura Eating Day. The 17th National Paddy Day and Sowing Festival is being celebrated under the slogan 'Increase in Paddy Production, Self-Reliance and Prosperity'. Nowadays, paddy is planted in the mud in Asare Vaka, singing folk songs. Farmers who are tired of the hassle of work eat yogurt chura for strength.


At this time, it is believed that curd chura cools the body and stores energy. Asar 15 is also considered as the festival of eating curd chura in Nepali society. Apart from agriculture, Nepalis engaged in other professions and businesses also celebrate the 15th of Asar by eating curd chura today. Paddy has been planted in 20 percent of the land
before June 30 this year.


With the onset of monsoon, sowing has accelerated due to good rains. Before July 30 last year, only 12 percent of the land was planted. In Nepal, 47 percent of the total cultivable land is under cultivation. Of which, the share of Terai region is over 70 percent. The total cultivable land in Nepal is about 3.1 million hectares. Paddy can be planted in 1.5 million hectares of land in Nepal. However, 63 percent of the land is still not irrigated.


Nepal's paddy farming is dependent on sky irrigation. There are statistics that paddy production in Nepal decreases in the year when there is no good rain and increases in the year when there is good rain. Paddy production is 11 percent of the GDP.
The year in which the production of paddy has decreased has shown a decline in the GDP and the year in which the production of paddy has increased has shown positive signs in the GDP. In Nepal, paddy is cultivated as Chaite, Varshe and Ghaiya, Bhadaiya and Hiundhedhan 9 Boro. Chumchaur in Jumla district of Nepal is the highest paddy growing country in the world and Jhapa is the highest paddy producing district in Nepal.

The government has declared Jhapa a super zone for paddy production. Paddy is planted in all the districts of Nepal except Manang and Mustang, two districts across the Himalayas.
